The Perry camp took the shot on the chin and wasted no time launching their own counter attack. In an attempt to question Paul’s own history with the Republican party, team Perry posted online Dr. Paul’s 1987 “Dear Frank” letter resigning from the Republican Party. Conservative blogger Michael Warren, quoting a Perry Campaign representative notes:
“Rep. Paul’s letter is a broadside attack on every element of President Reagan’s record and philosophy. Paul thought President Reagan was so bad, he left the GOP,” said [Perry spokesman Mark] Miner. “It will be interesting to hear Rep. Paul explain why Reagan drove him from the party at tomorrow’s debate on the grounds of the Reagan Library.”For Perry unfortunately, this statement is misleading and his counter has no punch. I anticipate it will actually produce the opposite of their desired result. Curious and frustrated Republicans, Libertarians, and disenfranchised Democrats who take the time to read “the Letter” will be more inclined to join team Paul than team Perry. You see, Paul’s 1988 letter is true to form for the good Doctor. And beyond being a fact filled analysis of Reagan’s and the Republican party’s role in contributing to the growth of government, rising deficits, inflationary Federal Reserve policy, unconstitutional covert military action, and encroachment on civil liberties, it provides a snapshot in time highlighting Dr. Ron Paul’s consistent, unwavering resolve and strict adherence to the principles of the Constitution.
